Happy Thanksgiving from Troop 93!!
The troop had an eventful weekend planned that included a weekend cold weather campout at Camp Oakaroo, Thanksgiving celebration, announce new troop leadership, and our Fall Court of Honor.
Camp Oakarro
The troop had a weekend campout at camp Oakarro in Wadsworth, IL. Camp Oakarro offers 40 acres of wooded land with two ponds, campsites, and an enclosed pavilion with a rustic fireplace. Camping this weekend saw the troop facing high daily temps right at freezing, and low nightly temps in the teens. Although challenging, the troop was well prepared and packed appropriately. Even in the cold weather temps, the scouts are the ones that manage the camp. They are in charge of setting up their gear, making sure everyone is doing ok, and also cooking all their food. The menu this weekend was quesadillas, biscuits and gravy, grilled cheese, campfire calzones, and breakfast sandwiches Sunday morning. If a scout ever tells you they don’t know how to cook or clean up their own dishes, don’t believe them.
Thanksgiving Celebration
The troop invited all of the families to celebrate the achievements of the troop and come together and give thanks. Troop adult leaders fried some turkeys while the families provided many delicious sides. The enclosed pavilion at Camp Oakarro provided an excellent spot for everyone to warm up while we ate the delicious food.
Fall COH
Since our sprint court of honor, the troop has been very busy. Summer camp at Camp Famous Eagle as well as lots of hard work outside of camp saw Troop 93 earn 63 merit badges, 9 rank advancements, 2 mile swim awards, 1 Nova award pin
